Be wary of weight loss program that advertise their one or two star performers. Scientific evaluation looks at the average weight loss of the whole group, how many people were or were not helped, how lasting the results are and whether there were any negative side effects. Avoid weight loss 'diets' or any approach that promises 'quick and easy' results. Be wary of drugs (including herbs) or surgery. A scientific weight loss program may require: 1. self-monitoring your eating habits to see if they need to change; 2. developing healthy alternatives to any unwise eating; 3. eating sensibly, enough to maintain your ideal weight; 4. regular, moderate exercise; 5. realistic goals, and 6. eating lightly two days each week.
