Herbed Toasts

Ingredients

1 tbsp plus 1 tsp reduced-calorie margarine (tub)

1 tbsp each chopped fresh basil and parsley

2 slices Italian or French bread (1 1/2 ounces each)

2 tsp grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  • In small mixing bowl combine margarine, basil, and parsley and mix until thoroughly combined.
  • Onto each slice of bread spread half of the margarine mixture; sprinkle 1 tsp cheese on each slice of bread.
  • On nonstick baking sheet arrange bread slices, herb-side up and broil until cheese is golden, about 1 minute.
  • Makes 2 servings.

Notes:

  • Confused about difference between herbs and spices? An herb is usually a leaf or stem of a plant; a spice is usually the seeds, bark, or root. Spices come from tropical climates whereas herbs do not.
