Philadelphia Cheese-Steak Hoagie

While the steak is broiling for this hearty sandwich, saute the onion and pepper and prepare the cheese sauce.

Ingredients

1 tsp olive or vegetable oil

1/2 cup each sliced onion and green bell pepper

2 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded

1 tbsp each whipped cream cheese and half-and-half (blend of milk and cream)

5 ounces top round steak, broiled until done to taste

2 hero or hoagie rolls (2 ounces each), each cut lengthwise into halves

Method

  • In 9-inch nonstick skillet heat oil; add onion and bell pepper and saute over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until vegetables are tender, 3 to 4 minutes.

  • Set aside and keep warm.

  • In small nonstick saucepan combine cheeses and half-and-half and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until cheeses melt and mixture is smooth and thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.

  • Set aside and keep warm.

  • To serve, thinly slice steak across the grain.

  • Onto bottom half of each roll arrange half of the steak slices, half of the onion mixture, and then half of the cheese mixture; cover with top half of roll.

  • MAKES 2 SERVINGS.
