There are various types of steamers. The traditional Chinese steaming-baskets, made from plated bamboo, are the most attractive and are available from Cheong Leen, 4 Tower Street, London WC2, and Wing Yip Supermarkets, 45-47 Faulkner Street, Manchester IMI 4EE, and both shops run a mail-order service.
The most conventional metal steamers either fit on to or are lowered into a saucepan. They are made from aluminium or stainless steel and can be bought from any store or kitchenware shop and should cost between £1.00 and £2.00.
Note: An efficient steamer can be improvised by balancing a colander, sieve or plate over a saucepan filled with water. |
