Microwave Power Levels

Most recipes in this site were tested in 650- to 700-watt microwave ovens with variable power levels. If you own a lower-wattage oven, you can still count on terrific results if you increase the cooking time of the recipe, check it, and then add more cooking time if necessary. If you are using a higher wattage oven, you'll need to decrease the cooking time slightly.

A microwave oven's power levels control the percentage of power introduced into the oven cavity and automatically cycle the power on and off. Lower power levels cook food more slowly; higher power levels cook food faster. Of course, power levels can vary, depending on the brand of oven. The power levels in the ovens we used follow. If the levels in your oven are different from these, the recipe may need to be adjusted.

High (100%)
Medium-High (60-70%)
Medium (50%)
