Cooking is safer than in conventional ovens because there are no hot
surfaces either inside or outside the oven on which to bum yourself. That means
school-age children can safely prepare their own after-school snacks in the
microwave. However, remember to use pot holders as the cookware can become hot.
-
The microwave oven cavity remains cool, which means there are no baked-on
spills or spatters. The oven interior can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or
sponge.
-
Because microwave cooking time is short and uses little or no added water,
the amount of vitamins and minerals that leak into the cooking liquid and are
therefore discarded is minimal. Sauces, soups, and other liquids, most
vegetables, fish, and fruits are at their best when cooked in the microwave
oven.
-
Microwave cooking requires less margarine, butter, and oil —you A
need only enough for flavoring.
